Some of our research methods
and locations are:
The Public
Library - This is the best place to find information about
a particular city or location. Libraries keep all public records on file
from births to deaths, daily newspapers (past and present), records of
ownership/deeds to buildings and land, general folklore and most importantly
history of the town. Make sure to also check out books from other ghost
hunters or parapsychologists as these are also awesome tools!
The Local Museum
- Most people tend to overlook their locals museums. Not only do they
have displays that contain all kinds of factual information they also
generally will have a historical reference library open to the public.
Some museums do charge small fees to use their library so make sure to
check in advance.
County or City Courthouse
- Most courthouses keep files of land
and building deeds which helps with researching previous ownership. Courthouses
also keep criminal and civil trial records which are also open to the
public. This will allow easy access to researching any crimes, such as
murders, that may have taken place at various locations.
City Hall
- City Hall also keeps public records
of deeds and blueprints of locations. City Hall is where permits for reconstructions
will most likely be stored.
The Internet
- The information super highway that
is never closed. This is an essential tool for researchers just remember
that not all information collected on the internet will be valid. Always
double check what you found online with other resources.
Local Residents
- Scope out the local populace and ask
people if you could ask them a few questions about their town. Most people
are willing to answer a few questions in passing. We have found the best
members of the communities are the senior citizens. Schedule a time to
visit a local retirement community to speak with some residents. Senior
citizens contain a vast amount of information about the history of their
cities, some of which you might not be able to find any other way and
may be crucial to your investigation.
The Resident or Business Owner
- Paranormal Investigators tend to overlook
asking the residents and owners historical and background questions. Most
people know the outs and ins of their homes and businesses and can also
direct you to another source for further information.
